Hi,

It seems that this is a common set-up out there. I already have an IB account and am leaning towards Sierra/Mytrack.

I want historical data from LIFFE, GLOBEX, ACE US Equity Markets and LSE.

I will be using Trend Lines, MA and the odd bit of Fibonacci thrown in.

Does Sierra/Mytrack do these markets well.

Are there any pitfalls or gaps in the service I should know about?

Cheers.

Sierra

Just signed up for Sierra, they use PayPal for the payment. It looks like I have to wait for something on my credit card statement before the money goes to Sierra.

Is this standard?

Yes, but I seem to remember that Sierra give you a month or so to pay once you've signed up, so you don't have to wait.

Thanks, got a mail from them this morning. This may sound a dumb question, but how do I calibrate the X scale ( vertical) I am looking at ES from IB but the graph is calibrating in 0.1 of a point.
How do I change to 0.25?

fillyerboots,

Go to chart settings (F5). Click on the 'scale' button. At the bottom it says 'scale increment 0=auto', change this to 0.25.

Hope that helps.

You're the Daddy!

How do I change the display so that the prices are closer together? At the moment there is a 2 or 3 cm gap between each tick.

Thanks

I'm not so sure what you mean. The prices will be closer if there is a bigger range on the screen.

You have two buttons on the toolbar that look like:

> < < >

Try either one. That should solve your problem.

Historical IB data for Sierrachart can be had for 10 Euros a month (most of the popular symbols included) by emailing Guido at: [email protected]

The data is stored in Central European Time so you need to make the cosmetic change of changing your PC clock to that time zone. Then whatever data you collect real-time thereafter will match what you downloaded. The files update every 5 minutes during the day, so you can even use it to backfill it intraday. Guido will add a capability to adjust the timeframe in the future I believe. Given that IB data is effectively free (and fast/good) ...paying this monthly fee is well worth it in my opinion. Saves the need for Mytrack.

IB doesn't have daily data files. The way around this is to set an intraday chart for 405 minutes. Start time for ES is 15:30, end time 22:14 (assuming European Time). This gives you the effect of daily bars for the pit session in the ES. Go as far back as Guido's files go back.

IB Backfills

Keep an eye on news from IB because they are working on a back filling capability according to a chat room session at Elitetrader.com where the speaker was an IB executive , Steve Sanders:

How about added historical data?

Steve Sanders (Sep 11, 2003 5:22:21 PM)
Yes, we also have histrorical data and real-time charts in the queue. It is a lot of work to store this information, so it will take time.

just offer historical data, there are plenty of charting programs already written for ib,

Hope this helps

Right Chaps,

Need your assistance.

Decided to have a go with sierra/ mytrack.

Question.

On silver plan-

How do you activate the realtime data ? Supposedly somewhere in mytrack.

Any help would be greatly received.

I presume you mean how do you change the values of your EMA's?

Go to "studies" then click the EMA you want to change, click "settings" and adjust the value to 20,50,100 or whatever you want.

There is another thread in the software forum I think entitled "sierra" which seems to have become the mecca lately for questions like this, by the way ;)

Cheers El Rosso,

managed to work it out just before your post. :D

re: thread - new there was one somewhere.

Had Sierra sat on my desktop for a while now so was familiar with some of the buttons, just thought it might have been quicker for moi with a quick nudge in the right direction from one of you guys. ;)

thanks for your assistance

I'm still having trouble combining Mytrack historical with IB live in Sierra, can anyone out there give me some pointers?

Thanks for the suggestion Johnny Rotten, I'm going to persevere with MyTrack but if I can't get it to work I might try it out.
