Something funny this morning.

I'm trialing e-Signal for the Eurostoxx. It's been lagging IB by 5-6 points for about half an hour. I rang e-Signal and they said "The quotes aren't right, don't rely on them for trading".

Chocolate teapots spring to mind.

I loved the package up to this point, great shame.

Esignal Delayed Data

Hi Helen,

What reason did they give for the data being incorrect ? Also I have spoken to others about esignal who have, in some cases, had data delayed by up to 90 seconds on European data when the US markets have opened. This is simply not good enough from a realtime data provider. I am also trialling esignal at the moment but I dont rely on them for realtime data as I use them more for determining setups for trades.

I am interested in more views on this.

No personal experience, but I remember a few of the US guys in Woodies room were trying to trade the Eurostoxx but gave up because the esignal European feeds were so unreliable.

e-signal delay

two days ago i was watching e-signal and ib prices together round a friends and e-signal was about 1 second faster than ib on the dow mini but the last 2 digits were never the same i have market - eye data feed and e-signal and the 2 are never the same market-eye laggs behind a fair bit when the markets are moving fast.

I use eSignal mainly for US (where it seems excellent), but I also have an eSignal LIFFE feed which is interesting to compare to IB. The IB feed is very consistent, never seems to go wrong, and is about 0.5 quicker than eSignal. The main problem I have found with eSignal is that the LIFFE feed is subject to "bunching" sometimes in the mornings, whereby the quotes get stacked somewhere. Then you suddenly get 5-10 minutes worth of prices appearing in a single bar. Rubbish or what?

To confuse things a bit, eSignal Tech Support say that LIFFE admit that the problem lies with themselves and that some new hardware will be put in on 10th March to sort this. But Signal can't explain why IB works all the time if the fault lies with LIFFE.

Today, another problem - the FTSE 100 Cash prices were unavailable for over half an hour through eSignal.

Please complain to eSignal Sales & Tech Support so they get the message. I've threatened to cancel my subscription over the "bunching" problem.

Good morning.

First time on this board so let me introduce myself. My name is Scott Johnson and I am the VP of Client Services for eSignal. We are very active in supporting our user community and you'll find us posting and responding regularly at http://forum.esignalcentral.com/ Great place to interact with other eSignal users and eSignal staff.

In regards to our European feed, yes we have had problems over the past 2+ months. We had been using a third party provider for our European Futures feed but due to performance issues and customer complaints, we opted to go more direct to the exchanges for the data.

The transition began in December of last year and, for the most part, continued up until recent weeks. The transition has been rough at times and that certainly has lead some customers to see the feed as unreliable.

While we did suffer an outage earlier today, overall performance is much better in recent weeks and we are diligently working to resolve any remaining issues, including the stacking issue noted earlier.

Thanks,

Scott Johnson

Hi Scott,

Good to see you keep an eye on the boards :)

You clearly seem to think that the issues should be resolved, so if the service is OK otherwise for the rest of this month I will be staying with you. Apart from this morning I have found the other aspects of your service excellent and I love the interface :)

Cheers

Follow-up to fowkesp

Liffe has reported that they will have a fix in place this weekend for the pricing stacking we've seen recently. Exchanges often have multiple connection types so not all vendors/brokers will use the same feed. Ideally, all connections will be equal but when problems occur, there are occasions when one exchange feed works better than another. This may explain the differences you are seeing with IB.

Thanks.

Many thanks to eSignal support for 1) monitoring these boards and 2) providing reassurance that the European feed problems will be resolved soon.

I have absolutely no quibble with the US datafeed service which is rock-solid and very reliable and of which I have been a user for 15 months, with no major problems that I can recall. Let's hope the European services attain the same high standards shortly.

US Datafeed

Hi Scott,

Thank you for taking the time to reply, I also echo other comments on here in that the US data has had no problems.

Word from the exchange was that all went well with the upgrade over the weekend and the price stacking issue should be resolved.

Thanks.

Scott,

Thanks for the update. I have certainly not seen any problems today with the FTSE feed, so initially it's looking good.

Paul

eSignal - problems again today (17/3)

Spoke too soon. The FTSE Futures quotes didn't start appearing this morning until 08:18. As always, IB feed working normally.

Still some work to do here, eSignal!

fowkesp,

We did have an outage this morning with the LIFFE. Our Operations Team contacted the exchange and the LIFFE restored the feed at approximately the time you stated.
