I traded gasoil cal spread fly's last year, it has to be up there as one of the most tedious trades. I put on one fly in jan (oct fly) and closed it out in jun....for a scratch. There's no point legging imo (some ppl did leg it) cos it cld take a few days to get the other leg on, I used to just set the autospreader and forget about it. Apparently the cal spreads used to be quite choppy. Though @ $25 a (quarter) tick it was quite fruitful, just v slow.

Actually i just started with the spreads.trading the first ,second and first-third months spread..still got only 5 lots on that but expecting that to increase exponentially soon..the problem is that if u are on the wrong side of any move, u got to cut and then wait really long to have another opportunity to get the losses back..
anyone trading the outright ? lost quite some money in that so moved to the spreads to try to catch up now :(
cheers

We swing trade gasoline about once a week. It's definitely a market that can move fast and either make you quite a bit of money or lose in short amount of time. Not as liquid as crude oil, but trades about the same as heating oil. We don't do any spread trading.

Actually, i trade gasoil on ICE ( not the same as gasoline which is different if i am not mistaken )
since i am a day trader , its quite hard to take positions for long time periods and the level of volatilty forces me to get out too early quite often..so i moved to the spreads and i am doing some occasional trades on the outrights based on levels or technicals.
I try to follow the heating oil spreads and the cracks as well to have a view on the market..
cheers

Best thing about trading gasoil is that diesel is the fuel of ecnomic growth. SO whilst globalgdp grows oil demand will grow. Just a thought.

I know this is an old post? are any of u still trading gas oil, just after some thoughts or ideas, many thanks, currently trading brent and nat gas futures
