..anybody use them? They don't currently accept UK accounts (should change soon i'm told) but I like the look of their setup. Anyone recommend anyone similar? My requirements would be a wide range of instruments, a solid web based trading system for when I'm not at home and a chance to demo their systems before committing capital...

(obviously on top of the usual cheap transaction costs, good customer service, reliability in volatile conditions etc)

Love them, use them for options, demo works really well. There is loads there, it takes a while to find your way around.
As with all US companies there is a bit of form filling, but its all worth it.

Thanks, I guess I'll have to hang on until I can set up an account.

ToS have an absolutely fantastic options trading platform. But I found their commissions a little high so I ended up moving to Interactive Brokers.

Demoing them at the moment.

Platform seems very good and intuitive and holistic with two included excellent charting alternatives and with lots of handy tools that need some digging up but once found come in handy eg for position sizing etc.

An absolute no-go for a €zoner like me is that you can only open an account in USD's.

What I also don't like is that their charts do not show entries and exits post trade.

And commision wise USD 7 / RT is definitely on the high side !

Also, at least on the demo, I'm occasionaly getting some frightening discrepancies between price and chart which is something the broker reviews on ET seem to substantiate.

But I will monitor things there a bit longer, as if the above issues get resolved TS is definitely a far more elegant and intuitive and complete - charts, IB, charts - solution than interactivebrokers.

I 'got around' the no UK issue and I am currently demoing so that if/when I can open an account properly and I get on well enough with them I'll shift some funds over there.

Liking all the 'soft' features and the stability seems fine, just needs a few fundamentals for us non yanks to fill our boots. Agree on the showing entries/exits, I'll probably have another go with Sierra charts, seemed like a good cost/feature tradeoff.

Hiya porph, just caught this, does that mean they're considering non US$ accounts ?

That'd be great.

Another issue:

I demoed again couple of nights ago...

Had a disrepancy between chart and same platform price in the YM of over 10 points from time to time...

Anybody else get that ???

I want to like them - don't have much choice between them and IB being on a Mac and I definitely prefer TOS's platform and integrated charting -, but charting that doesn't, umm, chart actual price clearly isn't doing the trick.

Can you let us know how you got around the UK problem

I have been with thinkorswim for years. Registered in Europe, you do not have to be a US citizen to use TOS. Just fill in the forms, prove your address via statements etc, and sign the disclaimers they have. Everything I did was done via mail and their online service for form filling.

All straight forward.

Ps. Great Broker.

Do you use the TD too as your primary ? Was glad that nothing changed when TOS were taken over by TD. It is a great platform, although not if you are into shorting lower priced stocks (only downside).

Been using them for a while, excellent stuff. I even have their smartphone app, so as to trade while traveling. Only problem is, and this may be old info, at the time it only worked well with Windows Mobile; all the other versions looked really awful. That may have changed since then.
Either way, great software for trading from your PC, the Web version is very good, and even the smartphone app is practical to use, if you know what your system is and can trade it from a teeny chart.
I don't do automation, so don't ask me about that. Limit orders are as far as I go. I'm an old fart both physically and mentally.

I use the automation on a daily basis and it is OK, although I may use it only basically compared to what is being discussed. I use it via the dome (active trader) for taking auto scalps after entry.

I can´t imagine trying to trade from an iphone, but can see its uses for those on the move.

WOW, me, trade without my 3x24" ! LOL.:cheesy:

I don´t have an iPhone, but almost wanna get one to see it working !

I don't trade from it, god no - just get quotes / charts when I'm having a sh!t.

I almost do that regularly with my phone, as I do the same as Mr. Gecko, except I actually place trades sometimes.
Oh well...
