I recently started playing (in a demo account) with MT4.

What a great piece of software.

With IG, MT4 accounts have higher margin than their own web UI. Is this a general phenomenom, or does someone else offer a better deal? Having £300-400 frozen for every position at £1 a pip seems a bit hard.

Why do they do this, BTW?

So how does a 500% margin compare across brokers using MT4? It seems a trifle high to me.

That's tying up £500 for a £1 stake bet, irrespective of where I place stop loss.

£1 per pip is too high for the small account.
There are plenty of brokers who offer £0.01 per pip.

While accessing Tickmill I got a red screen warning notice !

Anyone tried XM brokers ?

Tickmill are not interested in small players and refuse your reg attempt.

Are you talking about leverage? Tickmill that was mentioned above or Нotforex offer from 1:50 to 1:500 leverage, plus you can manage risk setting lot size from 0.01 to several tens of lots.

You have misunderstood me.
I meant if you deposit £500 you get a bonus added to your account of 50% i.e.£250 to make it £750 plus £20 = £770
The broker is called XM and registered in London.
It does micro accounts and more items than usual.

MT4 is the trading platform, the best broker should have near server to provide you fast-execution.

I am using more than one broker at the moment however all of them have MT4 and i like trading on such platform because they are secure, easy to trade and convenient too.
